It was one of those nights. The kids had a busy day at school. I was, exceptionally, busy with a new work project and was also trying to make time to keep on my marathon training program. Son has soccer practice and we rush to inhale some sort of dinner and head off to Wednesday night church. It was just all so overwhelming on this particular day, but even so… we trudged forward. Then, as we got out of the mini-van after all the chaos, my 7th grader gave me a hug. It was one of those long lingering hugs that made my eyes tear up. He says to me, “Mom. I appreciate you. I do.”
As moms, that’s all we ask for sometimes. I try my hardest to give my children a balanced lifestyle and provide a Christ centered home. One of the ways we do it, is rockin’ out in the van. Our latest favorite is Colton Dixon’s newest album, ANCHOR.
We heard the song a million times on KSBJ, but it was pure joy to hear the entire album in it’s fullest with my children as we drove from one activity to the next. Then I found this article in CCM Magazine.
Can you imagine what Colton’s mom felt when he told her he was auditioning for American Idol?! I read the article in it’s entirety and one thing that stood out (besides Colton’s crazy tall hair), was the closeness of their family.
From the baseball fields to the stages, this family is a living, breathing, and solid foundation for one another. In fact, that’s what led Colton to American Idol in the first place. It was the constant encouragement from his younger sister Schyler that led to Colton’s audition.
I like to think our family is pretty close as well. When Rudy has basketball, you’ll find us all in the stands cheering for him. When Zach joined the track team, all of us hit the school track to run and encourage him. Each time Abby has a writing award ceremony, we’re there! We play together and I don’t just mean sports. I mean, we PLAY together. We love family outings. We love watching movies. We just love making memories and creating a strong foundation.
“We’re not perfect — and we’re definitely not saints. We do love each other and, as a family, we collectively take a stand for Christ.” – Teresa Dixon
This is what it’s all about folks! In our family we often make mistakes. As Teresa mentioned, we aren’t perfect either. Sometimes we say or act un-Christ-like and we rely on each other for accountability. We will collectively stand for Christ and get through this life together with love.
I don’t know about you, but I can just really relate to the Dixon family… celebrating success, but always praising Him through it all. Today, I celebrate the mom who raised this amazing Christian artist. He is singing songs of praise into the ears of my children and they listen. They reflect. They connect with Christ in a way that makes my heart sing.
Thank you Teresa Dixon.
