I might be the only woman who hasn’t read “Fifty Shades of Grey.” OH, don’t get me wrong… I’ve had countless friends tell me how much I NEED to read this book, how much it will change my “personal” life. Yet, here I couldn’t open the pages of the book.
All the things I’ve heard really make me a bit uncomfortable. I don’t feel it’s healthy to put my mind or my heart in that place. ‘Fifty Shades of Grey” debuts on Valentine’s Day and I bet there will be tons of ‘Girl’s Night Out” evenings planned to see it and that’s ok, but how about a different kind of a movie? How about a movie about healing and chivalry? ‘Old Fashioned‘ debuts on Valentine’s Day too. As I researched more about this movie one particular line stood out to me, “When did treating women with respect become the joke?”
About the movie:
A romantic-drama, OLD FASHIONED centers on Clay Walsh, a former frat boy who gives up his carousing and now runs an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. There, he has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance. When Amber Hewson, a free-spirited young woman with a restless soul, drifts into the area and rents the apartment above his shop, she finds herself surprisingly drawn to his noble ideas, which are new and intriguing to her. And Clay, though he tries to fight and deny it, simply cannot resist being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Ultimately, Clay must step out from behind his relational theories, and Amber must overcome her own fears and deep wounds, as the two of them, together, attempt the impossible: an “old-fashioned” courtship in contemporary America.
It’s so refreshing to see a movie that depicts a God honoring courtship… a courtship I pray my daughter will have one day and a courtship I hope my sons will give to the women God chooses for them.
Old Fashioned debuts in theaters February 13. Check out www.oldfashionedmovie.com for more information or follow them on Twitter and Facebook. Look for a movie review here as soon as I can get out there to watch!
