Today, my 5-yr-old wakes up and the first thing on his mind? Super Heroes. His excitement has gotten the best of him, because he knows that Marvel’s The Avengers debuts in theaters today. He also knows that his 9-yr-old brother has already watched the movie with me at press screening, so he’s anxious to see why we can’t stop talking about this movie.
Oh, in case you’ve been living under a rock, The Avengers debuts TODAY, May 4th! Do we have any Marvel fans out there? Coming together on one screen, to save the earth from evil villan Loki, are Black Widow, Ash, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, and Nick Fury. I’ve never been a fan of comic books or Marvel characters, until I saw this movie. As of Today? We’ve caught up on every Marvel movie made and I’m DYING to see The Avengers again! I do, however, know you guys want to know if it’s family friendly and whether or not YOU should take your kids. Well, we’ve got your scoop right here.
Last week, I was able to take my 9-yr-old to a special screening of Marvel’s The Avengers. Being it was my VERY first Marvel movie, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, I was expecting to see action, flying, and villans, but I WASN’T expecting to be completely hooked to all that is Marvel. After watching The Avengers come together to defend Earth from Loki and his evil army, I wanted to know more about these Super Heroes and how they came to be.
So, the last few weeks I’ve been catching up with Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Hulk, Thor, and, of course, Captain America. I consider myself, somewhat, of a Marvel buff now and we have the WHOLE family excited to see The Avengers in theaters today. So, who’s your favorite Super Hero and is this movie family-friendly?
Well, first things first, this isn’t a kid movie. It is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action along with mild drug and alcohol references. If you can get past that and are able to explain to your young children what you believe, I think this film would be a great family film. My 9-yr-old absolutely loved it and I have every intention to take my 5 and 8-yr-old to watch it too.
It starts off a little slow, so kids might get “ancy” at the beginning, but once the plot thickens and the action of the “good guys” take life, you’ll be on the edge of your seat. It’s action packed and I was very surprised to see how FUNNY it was. There are so many sly humor references throughout that had us, literally, laughing throughout.
Now The Hulk?
In my opinion, he steals the show! I left the theater and that’s all I could talk about! Check out this video of what my 9-yr-old son thought and who HIS favorite character is:
