“Dad! Let’s have game night,” a plea familiar to us every Friday night. Nine times out of ten, I already know what Dad’s answer is going to be, “No, we never have fun when we have game night.” It’s true. It starts out all fun and games, yet it ALWAYS ends with a meltdown. The kids are just now learning how to deal with “losing” or “winning” gracefully, but it’s more than that. Even nights out on the town fall prey to melt downs. It’s as if they’re on a “happy overload” that it’s hard to control their emotions.
I spoke about this very subject at Jen and Barb MomLife. They asked me to contribute my thoughts on how we make time as a family and the difficulties that come with it. As a Mom, I want to genuinely enjoy my family together. So, how do you truly enjoy evenings and weekends with your family? Most importantly, can you see the lasting memories you’re making with your children?
Jen and Barb have teamed up with Coca-Cola and American Idol to bring their show that discusses the question, “Looking For a Little Family Fun?” You can read my guest post Enjoying Family Time while you’re there, but first check out Jen and Barb as they talk to Dr. Tina Bryson, psychotherapist, author, and mom about ways to truly enjoy evenings and weekends, for you and your entire family.
So, tell me… Does quality family time actually exist for you? Do your intentions always out weight the reality of busy schedules, exhaustion, and temperament?
