Did you know that elephants are the largest land animals on earth? They are the one of the most fascinating animals, especially to a young child. So, imagine my excitement when I heard that the beloved Disney Classic, Dumbo, is hitting DVD, Blu-Ray, and Digital Download for it’s 70th Anniversary?!
The inspirational tale of Dumbo, the courageous baby elephant who uses his sensational ears to soar to fame with the help of this clever best friend Timothy Q. Mouse, will thrill and elight audiences of all ages. This empowering message about friendship and belief in yourself will resonate with this new generation of children, just as it did when I was kid. So, why not have a Family Movie Night to celebrate?
Since the school year started, my daughter has changed dramatically. She’s in the 2nd grader and has, all of a sudden, really taken interest in looking her best. While I’m all for good hygiene and tasteful style, it’s a sudden change that I’m worried is coming from peer pressure. What I’m trying to teach her is that we are all uniquely made and we should try to be like others, but instead strive to be our own person. So, as we plan our Family Movie Night this month I have the words of Timothy Mouse in my head:
The very things that held you down are gonna carry you up and up and up! – Timothy Mouse
We’ll be watching a childhood favorite of mine, Disney’s Dumbo on Blu-Ray and I’m armed with Circus Popcorn, Elephant Fun Facts, Activities, AND Conversation starters for the kids such as:
- Celebrating with others what is uniquely different about each of us
- Exploring empathy for others
- Believing in yourself
- The meaning and importance of true friendships
- The discovery of our individual talents
- Turning our weaknesses into strengths
You can grab your own Dumbo Family Movie Printout for ideas, activities, and recipes in planning a Movie Night for the 70th Anniversary Edition of Dumbo! Are you as excited as I am for the release of this timeless classic?
