This morning, we finally have a chance to breathe as the Labor Day Weekend has come to a close. It seems I’ve been gone the last week or so. I was traveling in Michigan and when I returned I was sick for quite awhile with Vertigo and then we left for Oklahoma City to celebrate with my husband’s side of the family. It was great to be around family as we enjoyed a monumental 75th birthday celebration for my husband’s grandmother. When I get together with his side, it’s amazing to see the differences in our cultures. He’s Caucasian. I’m Latina. While the differences are subtle, there is one thing we all have in common and that’s the love for family.
I’m pretty proud to be Latina and excited to celebrate that fact this year for Hispanic Heritage Month. I’m even MORE excited that I get to share it with my children through crafts, storytelling, cooking, and EVEN Television. Yes, America’s favorite monkey, Curious George, has kicked off it’s new season as of yesterday. This year, PBS Kids is helping preschooler discover the arts through photography, opera, and SO much more, but they are also re-airing episodes with his friend Marco in celebration of the Latino Culture alive around the country.
About Curious George Season Six:
Everyone’s favorite monkey is back for a new set of (mis)adventures when CURIOUS GEORGE premieres its sixth season September 5, 2011 on PBS KIDS!. In ten brand-new episodes, kids can follow George’s contagious enthusiasm as he encourages preschoolers to find their own creativity and get curious about the arts. Kicking things off on Monday, George tries his hand as an auctioneer and one-man, or monkey, opera production in “Auctioneer George” and “Sock Monkey Opera.” Then on Tuesday, September 6, George learns that clues are key to solving mysteries in “Hamster Cam” and “The Great Monkey Detective.” And on Wednesday, September 7, George explores sculpting and photography in “George and the Giant Thumb” and “Shutter Monkey.” This season’s new art theme serves as an overlay to the series’ consistent educational mission of inspiring kids to explore science, math, and engineering in the world around them in new, fun, and entertaining ways. Tune-in for an all-new season of monkey mayhem beginning September 5, 2011 on PBS KIDS! (check local listings)
Thanks to Latina Bloggers Connect, I had the chance to check out the first few episodes of Curious George Season Six, with my little guy over the Labor Day weekend. We also revamped a few of our favorite Curious George episodes that celebrate Latino Culture as we watched older episodes with George and his friend Marco. On September 19th, PBS Kids will be airing these episodes to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and it’s a JOY for me to share that with my son as he learns more about the world around him, including my culture.
The NEW Curious George Season Six began on Labor Day, September 5th, on PBS Kids and will continue throughout the season with episodes celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and appreciation for the arts. Check your local listings for exact time and day.
Connect With Curious George Moms:
Be on the lookout this month for a Curious George Moms Twitter party on Thursday, September 15th 1pmEST/10am PST to celebrate the arts and Latino culture, co-hosted by four Latina Bloggers. The party will be filled with great prizes. Announcement and details coming soon! I’ll be one of the co-hosts, so you KNOW it’s going to be fun, verdad?
