Last night, as my husband carried our sleepy preschooler to bed, I heard my son mumble a few words to him. I couldn’t make out what they were, but I later found out that he was PURDY upset that “girly dolls” were left on his bed. “I just don’t want those girly things in my room!” — Eh… I’ll let his sister know.
My 4-yr-old is the epitome of a boy. He likes bugs, digging up worms, playing sports, and action heros on the television. So, when Shout! Factory asked if I’d like to check out the newest old school television show on DVD, Transformers: Beast Wars, I thought Well, how could I not? My son would kill me if I said no.
When the descendants of the treacherous Decepticons — now known as PREDACONS — land on a mysterious planet in search of a powerful fuel known as Energon, it’s up to Optimus Primal and the heroic Maximals to stop them before they conquer the universe!
In 1996 Transformers fans were introduced to this stunning saga created by Hasbro and the studio behind the groundbreaking computer-generated animated series ReBoot. Beast Wars ran for three amazing seasons, won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation and introduced a new generation of fans to the astonishing world of The Transformers! Now you can see the first 26 incredible episodes of this breathtaking animated epic.
To tell you the truth, I’ve NEVER heard of Transformers: Beast Wars. From what I understand, this is the sequel to the Transformers, we all come to love, back in 1984. Yeah, I knew them well. I was 3-yrs-old and had an older brother. Need I say more?
Being that both my sons LOVE the Transformers Movie, without having watching the original Transformers series, I thought I’d introduce them to this television series that aired back in 1996.
I wasn’t sure how they’d like it.
So, I sat with them through the first episode. I found it to be a bit boring for me, but what do I know about “boy shows”? By the third episode, it started getting really exciting and I knew my 4-yr-old son was hooked being that he hadn’t blinked for at LEAST an hour. Having to work, I told him, “Honey, I need to work at my computer, but when you’re done watching I need you to tell me what you think of this television show, ok?” Indeed he did and he put it to me like this:
“Momma. This is for your blog so write it just how I tell you. Ok? Those transformers? Some are good and some are bad. I really like the good ones and I think I can battle like that some day. Do you think I can? I KNOW I can. So, I really REALLY like this show.
What do I know about “boy shows”? Apparently, this is the best thing since he discovered Spiderman and all is good in the action hero department.
You can find Transformers: Beast Wars on DVD June 7th for the suggested retail price of $29.93. DEAL ALERT: Pre-order Transformers: Beast Wars Season 1 on Amazon for $19.99!
