Today, the world watched in wonder as a real LIVE fairy tale took place right before our eyes. The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton began this morning and many people set their alarms here in the United States to wake up in time to watch. I, however, did not.
I mentioned on Twitter and Facebook, that I just couldn’t get into the #RoyalWedding. Was there something, innately, wrong with me? Had I not dreamed of being a Princess when I was a young girl? I pondered those questions as I drove my children to school, in which, my 7-yr-old daughter asked, “Momma, do you think I could, one day, be a Princess? Would I have to go to England to do that?” My heart melted as I told her, “You’re a Princess already. You’re God’s Little Princess.”
See, to me, it’s not about marrying into a Royal Family, but being part of the everlasting kingdom of God. Today, I thought it perfect, to share Sheila Walsh’s new book, How To Be God’s Little Princess with my daughter. In her book, Sheila tells gives girl Royal Tips for Manners, Etiquette, and True Beauty…. not the beauty you think of when you see flashy hats and Jimmy Choos.
About How to Be God’s Little Princess:
A fun guide book for God’s little princesses. What does it take to be a princess? Sheila Walsh has some important answers to share for every little girl. This trendy design features black & white line art and a two-color pink and black interior. The art will tie to each how-to topic in the book-how to make the best pink cookies, how to wear a tiara, how to earn money at home, how to care for a royal dog, how to be respectful, how to use good manners, how to help Mom, how to follow Jesus, how to act like a princess when things go terribly wrong, and many more.
Thanks to Sheila Walsh, we received a kit fit for a Princess, that included tea party cups, her new book, princess tiaras, jewels to decorate them, and a cute pink bag. Although we absolutely loved the kit, we were most impressed with the manners and etiquette we learned.
Everyone is all abuzz over Catherine Middleton’s wedding dress, which gives me the opportunity to talk to my daughter about her Royal Wardrobe here at home. For instance, she was able to take the Royal Wardrobe quiz to see if she knew the differences in attire to be worn at a Royal Ball Vs. A Pizza Party. The Princess is directed to ask for assistance from her Royal Advisors, otherwise known as, Mom, Dad, and other Family Members.
What I love most about the book, is it touches on so many things I’ve been discussing with my daughter the last few weeks. For example, yesterday, I walked into the bathroom to give my daughter a fresh towel after her bath. I found her lathering hair conditioner in her hands, but her hair was still dry and had not been shampooed yet. It never dawned on me that, now that she’s taking her own baths, she needs more direction when washing her hair.
How to Be God’s Little Princess delves into washing hair, taming tangles, nail care, body washing, brushing teeth, and even sweating…. uh..err… I mean “glowing”.
Today’s youth has opportunities we didn’t have as young children, such as internet and cell phones. This book does an amazing job at teaching the Dos and Don’ts of a media savvy princess. As a blogger, I take extra precaution to be safe online and I expect my daughter to do the same if and when she uses similar platforms to express herself. A few points Sheila touches on are cell phone etiquette, wrong numbers, text lingo, and internet safety for kids. If you guys remember, my daughter mentioned opening her own blog and Sheila EVEN touches on that stating, “Start a secure blog or web site with your parent’s help.”
I can’t even begin to describe everything I love about this book, but as a woman, I’m thrilled to have it as a tool to teach my daughter about growing up and focusing on God and His Word to get through it.
