When I was in Junior High, my love for sports sky rocketed. Sports came very naturally to me. Whenever I was active, no matter what the sport, no matter what the level, I was happy. I enjoyed the healthy competition and I made some of my best friends through those years all the way through High School. My long time favorite? Track & Field and Cross Country. Whenever I was pushing myself the hardest is when I was most content. Another sport I loved was Cheerleading. So, it’s no surprise to me that my 7-yr-old daughter is interesting in Cheerleading and, soon enough, I’ll be on the flip side of the sport. The Cheerleader Mom.
Today, 65 percent of high school girls participate in a school sport. In addition to helping them keep fit, participation in athletics gives teen and tween girls a variety of benefits such as learning to enjoy healthy competition, making new friends, building self confidence, relieving stress and providing a built-in support system.
In honor of National Cheerleading Safety Month, Varsity is hosting a live video briefing on TheMotherhood about the benefits of cheerleading along with safety tips. Guess what? I’m one of one of the nine co-hosts for this online event and I want you to join us!
About the Briefing:
Date: Tuesday, March 22, 2011
Time: 1 p.m. ET
Location: TheMotherhood, http://www.themotherhood.com/talk/show/id/62177
What: In honor of National Cheerleading Safety Month, Varsity – the leading source for all things cheerleading – is hosting a live video and chat briefing on TheMotherhood.com, sharing advice for parents who want to encourage their daughters to get involved and participate in healthy activity. Nicole Lauchaire, VP Corporate Marketing and Communications for Varsity Brands, and a former cheerleader herself, will be leading us through this fascinating discussion.
What to look for:
There will be a live feed video player at the top of the Talk page in the banner section of the Talk (the black section with the Talk description). It will look just like a video player embedded from YouTube, but it’s where you will watch Varsity’s Nicole Lauchaire talk on live video feed.
How It Works:
1.) There will be a live feed presentation in the video player at the top of the page. Make sure you press play, are not on mute, and have your volume up to hear it. No need to call a phone line or do anything else to watch. If for some reason it is not playing – be sure to refresh the page! (You will not be on video – no one will see/hear you. It’s a one-way feed.)
2.) For anyone who is logged into TheMotherhood, you can post and comment in the text-based section under the live feed video player (as you would in a normal Talk on TheMotherhood.com). Nicole will lead off with a live video feed and then, following the livestream, will join the text-based conversation. We can all engage in text-based conversation, and ask questions of Nicole and each other in real time both during and after the video briefing.
No matter what the sport your child is involved with, we, as Mothers, have one thing in common, and that’s the will to encourage our girls through Healthy and Positive support. Will you join us on Tuesday so we can all collaborate on ways we can do this?
