What’s your favorite way to exercise? I happen to love running, however, there is this craze across America called Zumba that has everyone dancing and everyone shedding those pounds. I tried a few classes and it’s crazy fun. Another way people are using dance to lose weight and stay healthy, is through video games. Exercise Wii Games are very popular among families, like Zumba Fitness and Just Dance 2. These games help me, as a parent fight childhood obesity and have fun all at the same time.
Primrose Schools is stepping up, as well, with it’s fight against childhood obesity with the second annual Family Dance-off, benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. And you can help! They’re inviting families across the country to submit 30-second dance videos to FamilyDanceoff.com to compete to win cash prizes and a donation to their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
This year, Primrose Schools will donate a total of $65,000 to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the hometowns of the top three winning families. Families can submit videos from Feb. 1 through March 19. Each week, two finalist families will be selected based on the number of votes their video has received. The 14 finalist families will advance to compete during finalist week from March 20-26 to win the grand prize, a $5,000 prize and a $30,000 donation to their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital; second prize, $3,000 and Primrose will make a $20,000 donation to their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital; or third prize, $1,500 and Primrose will make a $15,000 donation to a local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. The winners will be selected by a panel of judges based on the number of votes received during finalist week, creativity, originality and humor.

Why Should Your Family Participate?
So, why dance? Besides the philanthropic lesson we’re teaching our children, dancing is so much FUN! I mean, when I dance, my stress just melts away, along with those calories.
It’s an easy way for families to fight obesity risk, enjoy physical activity and spend quality time together. According to the CDC, the national childhood obesity rate has tripled in the last 30 years. The American Journal of Health Promotion reports one in three children under two years old is overweight. More and more children are developing adult health problems like high cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes.
So the real question is, why not dance for a difference?
Enter Primrose Schools’ Family Dance-off competition. Be sure to film your family’s best moves and upload your video to FamilyDanceoff.com between Feb. 1 and March 19 for a chance to win!
So, what do you guys to have fun and exercise as a family? We like to take nature walks, race each other in the back yard, and, of course, dance!! Look for our video this weekend about how much fun we had hosting a Primrose Dance Off Family Party and read about our personal struggle with weight in our youngest child.
