As Spring rolls in, we’re able to see the light at the end of the tunnel regarding Cold & Flu Season. For me, I’ve counted my blessings that it didn’t hit us too hard this year. The previous year, however, we were all bound to our bed for weeks with the dreaded Swine Flu.
You might count me as a lucky one, because we’ve seemed to stay healthy, but you might think otherwise when you know that the dry air in the house and allergy season blooming makes for a really hard time for my daughter. She suffers from eczema and the last few weeks has been pretty tough on her when she had a break out on her face. How do fight eczema in kids? We’ve learned which lotions and soaps to use and, only recently, found a kids humidifier that has done wonders for my daughter’s skin, thanks to Germ Guardian.
Unlike other humidifiers that grow slimy mold in the water tank, the Ultrasonic 55-Hour Humidifier uses Silver Clean technology embedded in the tank to fight the growth of mold and mildew on the surface of the water tank. The humidifier has a 1.2 gallon water tank with a run time of 55 hours. It is equipped with the option for warm or cool mist and has a low water indicator light that lets you know when it’s time to refill the water tank. Thanks to ultrasonic technology and a soft-glow night light that can turn on or off, it is ideal to have on while you sleep. Ultrasonic technology makes it ultra-quiet when running.
- Silver clean technology fights mold and bacteria growth in water tank
- Silent operation makes it perfect to use while sleeping
- Variable mist control for use in small or large rooms
- No added costs to maintain the humidifier
- Choose from warm or cool mist

Thanks to Germ Guardian, we were able to test out their H1500 Ultrasonic Humidifier. It sounds like the name of a robot, huh? We live on the coast of Texas (near Houston/Galveston), so it’s, mostly humid, year round, but during the Winter and Spring months the weather is unpredictable. One morning you’ll have the heat on and by afternoon you’ll need the air kicked down low. It’s crazy. So, to balance out the humidity levels in our daughter’s room, we’ve been using this humidifier.
Now, I’ve used TONS of humidifiers before. Seriously. I’m totally over the humidifier due to the pain of pouring the water in, the loudness of the machine, and the fact that I really can’t tell a difference when I use them. Really, but after reading more about Germ Guardian products, I was intrigued. I WANTED to learn more and WANTED to give my daughter another chance at fighting her eczema.
We agreed to check it out.
We were still skeptical.
We opened the box.
We set it up.
We poured the water.
We turned it on.
We saw a difference. A BIG difference.
The first night we used it, my daughter was all smiles. She knew this would help her irritating and allergy prone skin. The blue soothing nightlamp on the machine helped, but most of all she enjoyed the ability to turn the air warm or keep it cool. She likes it cool.
Another feature she loved is the ability to change the level of humidity. This works great when you use it in small rooms, then change it to a larger room. Check it out on the highest level of humidity:
What I love most of all is the fact that it’s REALLY easy to fill. You’re not struggling with a big ole’ tank of water. You’re able to see when it’s full due to the clear tank and it’s small enough for me to carry WITH a handle. My favorite feature of all, though, is the fact that it’s quiet. Yes, it doesn’t wake my daughter up or keep me from sleeping (I have abnormally ionic hearing). In addition, there are no added costs of buying filters, evaporating pads, or wicks.
What Makes It Different Than Other Humidifiers?
Well, all Germ Guardian humidifiers live up to the brand they house. They guard against germs. The H1500 has a mold and mildew resistant tank. I have countless stories of using other humidifiers and finding mold in the tank. It’s gross. It’s costly and downright unsanitary. This humidifiers puts my mind at ease. Plus, it lasts for 55-Hours!! Not that we need 55 hours, but it’ll continue throughout the night and into the morning.
We’ve seen a dramatic difference in our home once we started using this humidifier, however, there is one suggestion (kind of a no brainer, but still) that I have for you guys. Suggestion: When changing the water, leave the base where it stands. Take the tank to fill, but be prepared with a towel. Once you remove the tank, depending on how much water you have left, there will be leakage. Not much, compared to other humidifiers, but enough to need a towel.
I started off skeptical at what a difference this, particular, humidifier would make in my home. I was, surprisingly, taken aback at how superior the Germ Guardian H1500 Ultrasonic Humidifier is, compared to others on the market. It’s continuously sanitary, quiet, and effective. We used this the night after a really bad eczema breakout (and I wish I had pictures to show you the change) and within TWO days, her skin irritation had subsided due to changing the humidity levels in her bedroom. In addition, humidifiers work great for little ones battling colds.
Does your child struggle with eczema? Germ Guardian humidifiers have helped us fight it. What other ways do you guard your children against eczema breakouts?
