As parents, we often speak and our children hear something completely different. Better yet, they have a completely different perspective on the entire conversation. Heck, who am I kidding? We do that, often, with adults too! Did you see guys ever see Despicable Me? One of our favorite moments was when Gru said he wanted Cookie Robots, but Dr. Nefario made him Kooky Robots. Yup. They were dancing and groovin’ and Gru just shook his head in disappointment. Of course the kids and I couldn’t stop laughing. Misunderstandings can be stressful, but C’mon, you can get a good laugh too, right?
Alka Seltzer thinks we should all embrace these moments, so they launched the Said/Heard Mishaps Contest on their Facebook Page. Everyone has a story… The one where a simple misunderstanding, turned into a funny miscommunication. Have you ever said one thing and the other person thought you said something else? Alka Seltzer wants to hear it and you could win a trip to New York City to tape your moment LIVE!
Speaking of stories, I have my very own sweet memorable story. As a Christian Momma, I love listening to KLOVE or KSBJ (now that I love in Houston Area) when I’m in the car with the kids. At a very young age, my daughter started singing along with all the songs and it just melted my heart. One of her favorites was a song by Phillips Craig and Dean called, I Am a Friend of God. It goes a little something like this:
In the chorus you hear the song say “I am a friend of God. I am a friend of God. He calls me friend.” My 3-yr-old daughter (at the time) sung along, as she usually does, and then she says, “Momma! Momma! Why does God call me Fred? My name is Abby.”
My smile was ear to ear, as I explained, “Honey, He calls you FRIEND, not FRED.” We giggled for what seemed hours and, still today, I hold that sweet moment in my heart.
Do you have a Said/Heard Mishap like this? I’d love to hear it, but it could be worth WAY more than that in the Alka-Seltzer contest. The makers of Alka-Seltzer want you to remember that while miscommunication can be funny and entertaining it can also lead to stress. And when stress gives you heartburn with headache, Alka-Seltzer Original gives you relief fast. Use as directed.
