My daughter is very much the girly girl. She loves pink, frills, tiaras, fashion, and make-up. I feel it’s important to help my daughter embrace her beauty and learn how to, modestly, dress and act. I also feel each child has a unique personality with an array of qualities and interests. That being said, my daughter loves all things pink, but she also loves sports. She also loves animals, history and math, all things associated with, what you would think, are boy interests.
Up until now, I haven’t found a company that embraces both sides of children’s interests. Sports shirts are blue, green, or black. Princess shirts are pink and purple. When was the last time you saw a Sports shirt tailored to young girls? When have you seen a girl wearing a pink dinosaur shirt? I have, just recently, thanks to A Closet of Her Own, a store that specializes in girl shirts, with images such as firetrucks, basketballs, and, my personal favorite, the sport of running.
About Closet of Her Own:
Provides young girls with cute, fun, girly t-shirts with images of things that are usually only found on boys’ clothes. Parents (and grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends) have a place to find t-shirts which showcase the interests that they love and the jobs that they do so that they can inspire a love of these things in their girls as well as boys.
I was asked by Rachel, owner of A Closet of Her Own, to check out their line of t-shirts for girls. They range in sizes, types, and come in a variety of images. It should be no surprise to a lot of you, who have been around Momma Findings, that I chose the Running T-Shirt for my daughter. I love the sport and I hope to pass that love to her as well.
It’s, typically, hard to review clothes, because there isn’t much to say, when compared, to say, a video game, however, I felt it important to showcase this girls boutique, because I haven’t seen many shirts that really embrace girls interests if they differ from the norm.
A Closet of Her Own does that.
When I received my t-shirts, I was surprised to see how much thought is put into packaging the product. It came in a box, but each shirt was folded meticulously, wrapped in light-weight plastic wrap, and sealed with a sweet A Closet of Her Own sticker.
I also love that I can buy, my chosen image, in different varieties. For instance, we received a short sleeve shirt, to round out the warm months (here in Texas it’s always warm) and a long-sleeved shirt for those rare cold days we have. It’s great because my daughter, frequently, asks if she could come jogging with me. Check her out:
The quality of the shirt left, quite the impression too. They are soft, which is perfect for my daughter’s sensitive skin, yet it’s durable. It’s recommended that you wash your shirts in cold water and hang them to dry, however, I’ve always gone the lazy route in my laundry habits. I threw it in the washer and dried it in my dryer. There has been little to no shrinkage or fading.
I love A Closet of Her Own and I, couldn’t find anything that I’d improve on regarding the actual shirt. I do, however, wish they had more images to choose from and offered sizes larger than 8. My daughter is quickly growing and I’d love to continue to shop at this boutique, but her size isn’t offered. Suggestion: Maybe with more images, that will leave room for bigger sizes? A girl can hope, right?
All in all, these running shirts have, quickly, become my daughter’s favorite, especially when out running with Mom. They’re cute, girly, and, distinctly, show her interest, publicly among her friends, without being restricted to the “typical boy colors”.
Closet of Her Own T-Shirts can be purchased at www.closetofherown.com and are available in sizes infant to girls size 8. Prices range from $14.99-$18.99.
