I feel very blessed to have this certain friend. She’s been my friend since 1st grade. Now that we have families, we can lean on each other for parenting advice, marital matters, or to rescue the day with a simple chat over coffee. Sundays, it’s always a hit or miss for us to be at church according to my husband’s work schedule. We’re floatin’ by with only one vehicle, at the moment, since his truck broke down. On the days he works, my friend gingerly offers to take the kids and I to church. Without her, I would have to miss. Without her, my week usually ends up “off balance” and my encouragement is gone. It’s her helping hands that show me Christs love through a simple carpool to church.
As Christians, we, often, overlook the span of our outreach. The little things we do in life DO matter, no matter how big or small. Last week, I introduced you to a book that teaches us just that called The Boy Who Changed the World. Today, however, I want to let you know about a sweet Max Lucado book called One Hand, Two Hands. In it, children learn how our hands can help others through kindness, love, and prayer.
A delightful way to show little ones how their hands are a blessing from God that they can use to do help others. Written in rhyming text and illustrated with the charming art of Gaby Hansen, this simple message of God’s blessing of hands not only entertains . . . as it teaches what wonderful things our hands can do from scratching, latching, and petting a pup to washing dishes with mommy and putting toys in a box . . . but it also conveys the important message: We can use God’s gift of hands to show our love for Him by helping others.
I was asked to review a variety of Tommy Nelson children’s products. Every Sunday I bring you guys Faith for Kids so this was a no-brainer. Tommy Nelson is the first publisher I turn to for teaching materials for my children. Each day I’m trying to train these kids up in the way they should go and, my hope is I can bring light to products, books, and music to help you do the same.
This week, we read One Hand, Two Hands by Max Lucado. This precious book is beautifully illustrated with a sweet message about how God blessed us with hands. Hands have so many different purposes. We all know that they can easily love, but sometimes hurt. They can be sweet, but sometimes rough. Our hands can help others, show kindness, and express love.
The last page in the book gives you examples of Helping Hands, Kind Hands, and Loving hands and encourages you to talk about different ways your hands can be helping hands.
There are several ways you can bring the family together with One Hand, Two Hands. This book is made for younger children, however, older kids can read it out loud to them. In the end, take the discussion to the dinner table and talk about what your hands do. For example, your Helping Hands can clean your room. Kind Hands can share snacks with others. Loving Hands can hug Mom and Dad.
The book ends tenderly with a prayer of thanks to God for hands and asks Him to use them again:
Five fingers, ten.
God, thanks, for my hands.
Please, use them again.
A simply Praise of thanks to God for giving us so many uses for our hands can help children think of all God has blessed them with, even down to their toes.
One Hand, Two Hands can be purchased at Christian Bookstores, Barnes & Noble, or online at Amazon.com for the suggested retail price of $16.99.
One lucky Momma Findings winner will receive a copy of One Hand, Two Hands.

I love Max Lucado, great teacher.” Please check your inbox on how to claim your prize.
