You probably read that title and thought What?! Sara talking about desire? Hot stuff! Most of my Music Monday’s are songs that encourage me, mostly Contemporary Christian music. But today? I’m in this John Mayer kind of mood.
Spring Break has come to an end, which mean the chaos has walked out of my house, onto the bus, and into their Elementary School. I’m left with a quiet relaxing house this morning (until toddler boy wakes up). Steam is floating up from my coffee cup, there is a chill on my shoulders from this frosty morning, and I’m left with the sound of my fingers typing and the sound of music from my iPod.
As I listen to this song, my heart just beats harder, not necessarily faster, just harder. “I want you so bad, I’ll go back on the things I believe.” This describes the ultimate battle with sin that we exeperience each and every day, whether that be a lust for food, alchohol, drugs, or in this instance, a yearning for a person you feel you can’t live without, driving you to the ultimate edge of desire.
“Silently screaming, I have to have you now.” Have you ever felt that way about a person? About anything? You have to have your fix. My heart beats harder, not because I’m addicted to drugs, but because this song is so powerful. It describes how anyone would feel when they are on the edge, when you want something so bad, and it’ll drive you to do unspeakable things like “go back on the things I believe.”
“There I just said it. I’m scared you’ll forget about me.” Man. Fear of losing the one you have fallen in love with. Scared you’ll be nothing but a tiny little memory, dwindling down to nothing in their heart. Fear of rejection. Fear of forgetting those happy, passionate moments.
Ok. I’ll stop for fear of typing ramblings from my brain, but take a listen. How does this song make you feel?
