I JUST had a conversation with my 7-year-old son that went a little something like this:
Mom: When I was a kid, my favorite thing to pick out at the store was Gum Balls. I’d get the Rainblo tubes with different colors.
Son: I’ve NEVER seen you chew big gum like that. Ever.
Mom: Well, no it hurts my teeth now, but anytime my Grandpa gave me money I’d pick those out. What’s your favorite thing to pick in the candy aisle?
Yes, I said it. My child likes peppermints, which I find odd because I hate peppermint candy, almost as much as I dislike peanut butter on my waffles. My husband loves eating peanut butter on his waffles and I cringe at the thought of the roof of my mouth becoming dry. Eck!
But back to my gum craze. When I was a little girl, I loved chewing gum. I was your ultimate Violet Beauregard from Willy Wonka’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Okay, not to that extreme, however, it was a love I shared with “ole’ purple girl”. As an adult, I see my children pick their candy and they always go for classic favorites, like M&M’s or they choose based on the packaging. Anything with vibrant colors, cool characters, or containers usually ends up in our grocery cart. The wrapping can definitely influence a child’s decision, but do you think it works the same way with adults?
I had the chance to check out the new packaging for Dentyne, featuring artist Anthony Yankovic. Check it out:
Dentyne® is a must-have socializing essential that allows socially addicted consumers to practice safe breath for the confidence to make a close connection instantly. Dentyne® premium badge edition bottles, a first in the U.S. gum category, come in twelve bold, badgy, limited edition designs for three flavors — Peppermint, Spearmint and Arctic Chill™. The bottles, designed by artist Anthony Yankovic, are especially appealing to young adults who love socializing. Anthony previously produced limited edition designs for trend and badge-driven categories like Apparel, Skateboard and Snowboards.
As a peppermint lover, my son immediately took the blue bottle for his own, leaving me with my favorite Spearmint. The artwork on the packaging definitely hits a chord with me because, before I decided to make a living at being a Mom, I dreamed about being an Art History teacher. I seriously, can’t draw to save my life, but fell in love with various artists, techniques, and the history behind it all.
As a mother and social media enthusiast, the bottles are functional too! I mean, you can keep it in the cup holder of your car anytime you need a quick breath freshener before PTO or when you’re hanging back with all your blogging buddies at the next conference. Oh, and there are two openings to the bottle: A wide mouth for sharing or the narrow mouth to keep it all for yourself!
Look for it at your favorite grocery store, wherever, gum is sold.
So what do you guys think? Does packaging like this influence your decision to purchase? It has your Classic Dentyne flavors, with a new artsy twist. Thoughts?
