My eyes shuttered and goosebumps ran down my back as we passed a car who had slammed into the guardrail on the freeway. That night we were driving to meet friends for dinner with our 4-month-old and, for some reason, an uneasiness came across me. I placed my hand on my husband’s shoulder and quietly muttered, “Be careful, Hun. The roads are slick.” Then I, silently, thanked God that my husband was driving because I don’t drive well in bad weather. My palms get sweaty, my heart starts racing, and a fear comes over me.
Not 5 minutes later my husband was slamming on the breaks and our car was turning circles on the freeway. We landed near the guardrail, but, thank God, we didn’t hit anyone or anything. My Momma instinct kicked in as soon as the car came to a stop and I turned to look at my sweet baby in the backseat. Worried he was hurt, I started giggling in tears when I saw his eyes were still shut and he was quietly sleeping…. through it all.
Seven years later, I still go back to that night in my head. I’ve been there. I’ve experienced the fear of a potential car accident and with my precious children in tow? I’m never too careful. So, when I discovered Safety 1st’s Complete Air Convertible Car Seat, I knew I HAD to try it.
About the Complete Air Convertible Car Seat:
Safety 1st Complete Air Convertible Car Seat in Harvest is the first car seat to offer Air Protect, revolutionary side impact technology. Complete Air is the first car seat to provide unparalleled protection against the biggest threat to children on the road today – side impact crashes. Through the precise release of air, Air Protect shields children from side impact intrusion and immediately reduces crash forces where the child is most vulnerable – the head. A superior testing method combined with a strict focus on head containment make Air Protect not only a state-of-the-art technology, but a revolution in child safety.

Momma Findings Family Thoughts:
This is the first car seat that was easy from the get-go. There was nothing to assemble (besides attaching the cup holder). After adjusting the straps, we were ready to install into our SUV. One thing I was really impressed with was the LATCH feature. I mean, in two snaps you’re installed safely and ready to hit the road. This eases my mind because according to Safe Kids, when correctly installed and used, car seats reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent for infants. SEVENTY ONE PERCENT! However, as many as four out of five car seats are installed or used incorrectly. I believe it because for years I thought my car seat was installed correctly with my first child, but quickly learned later it wasn’t.
Not only is it easy to install, but the padded head space is of utmost importance. Just thinking of the fatality of a side impact has me cringing, but feeling and looking at how Safety 1st is protecting my son’s head has me feeling a bit more secure. Take a look:
It also has a 5 point harness that makes buckling a little more time consuming, but totally worth it knowing my toddler is securely buckled. Not only that, but he can’t UNBUCKLE. This is a serious problem because he’s little hands have been curious. With our last car seat he was able to squirm his the top half of his body out and managed to unbuckle the rest.
There are a few Momma Improvements I need to mention that we’ve, personally, experienced. Although my 3-year-old can now face forward, I did try the rear-facing position to see how easy it was to install and how much room it would take up. I can see how much of a hassle this car seat can be with younger children and small cars. I drive a Dodge Durango SUV and, with the rear-facing position, we had to move the front seat all the way up, giving little room for those in the front passenger seat.
One other thing that we’ve, kind of, had a headache with is the fact that it’s not easy to clean. I mean, kids have accidents, spill food and drink and spot cleaning would work great, but when my son vomited all over himself and the seat, we couldn’t get the cover off very easily, especially the cover on the head rest.
All in all, the Complete Air Convertible Car Seat has been one of my favorite Car Seats to date. It’s easy to install, it’s safe, and built to last.
