This morning I’ve been busy getting registration paperwork ready for my 2nd Grader and Kindergartner. School starts this month and the only thoughts going through my brain revolve around Bus Stops, School Supplies, and Lunch Packing.
I have two children that are Day & Night. My son is very uniform, organized, and likes to follow a strict regimen on school days. He likes to know what he’s going to eat in his lunch for the week. Okay, I’ll admit he’s a little OCD. My daughter, on the other hand, likes last minute change of plans, wears funky clothes, and enjoys surprises in her lunch box everyday.
In order to make both of them happy, I search for fun, healthy, yet, tasty snacks. I was lucky enough to check out the New Lance Snacks:
I don’t know about you guys, but my interest in whole grain products has grown once I realized my kids would ACTUALLY eat these products. It makes me feel comfortable knowing I’m helping them on both the health and taste side of their food intake.
Lance replaced it’s Wheat Crackers with Whole Grain this year with the launch of:
-Real Peanut Butter on Whole Grain Crackers
-Real Sharp Cheddar Cheese on Whole Grain Crackers
-Real Cheddar Cheese on Whole Grain Crackers
The Cheese flavor crackers were a big hit at this house! My 5-year-old is a Sharp Cheese fanatic so before giving her these sandwich crackers I knew she would like them.
What I liked about these crackers is the fact that, they really aren’t much different than their regular wheat crackers. Seriously, I didn’t notice much of a difference in taste! However, with no trans fat, no preservatives, and no high fructose corn syrups, it made my little Momma heart a little giddy!
For those looking for portion controlled snacking, Lance has you covered with their 100 Calorie Sandwich Crackers in the following options:
-ToastChee Peanut Butter
100% Lance-Made creamy peanut butter layered on mini-baked cheese crackers
-Toasty Peanut Butter
100% Lance-Made creamy peanut butter layered on mini-baked butter-flavored crackers
-NipChee Cheddar Cheese
Real cheddar cheese layered on mini-baked, cheese-flavored crackers
I invited my Mom and Sister to help us sample the crackers thoroughly.
After having them open the small bags, my Mom says, “Mmmm, I can’t tell it’s 100 calories. They taste really good, they are filling, and I’d buy ’em.”
Good to know, because I enjoyed eating the cheese crackers with my toddler and it’s great that it’s portion controlled. My daughter tends to over eat while at school so I have to carefully pack her lunch box with healthy food that will keep her full and energized for the day.
My sister, a business professional, takes her lunch every day and she mentioned that it would be a perfect snack to get her through the second half of the day. You know, the part where you’re losing steam and counting down the hours for the end of the work day? Lance 100 Calorie crackers will definitely fill your tummy without the guilt.
There are a few improvements I would, personally, make to these NEW Lance Crackers. I am truly, in love with these, but in order to balance it out a bit (as I always do) I have a few things that might make things easier:
Taste: Although, my kids enjoyed the Whole Grain crackers, they did mention they are a tad bit gritty, “Like Sand” were their exact words. After explaining it’s all those healthy grains in the cracker they said, “Oh, that’s good Mom! I like eating healthy stuff!”
Packaging: The Whole Grain crackers come in your standard “Snack Cracker” packaging. However, after seeing the 100 Calorie bag and comparing the two, I noticed my children have a hard time opening the Whole Grain Crackers. It would be perfect if the packaging was easily accessible for younger children taking these to school. I usually take them out of their package and put them in Ziploc bags so it works out fine.
Allergy Alert: Although peanut butter has always been a staple in snack crackers, I’d love to see something “Out-of-the-Box”. We recently discovered Sun Butter, Sun Flower Seed butter. It’s a perfect options for snack crackers and protects MOST children at school, daycare, and public places.
With over 16 varieties, Lance crackers are definitely a brand I can count on when packing lunch for my children and husband. They keep snack time fresh, fun, and, above all else, TASTY!
