I have to admit, I’m not a Star Wars fan. *gasps* I know I know, it’s so difficult to admit to others, but growing up it wasn’t something I cared for. Even now, I can’t seem to sit through one. However, I am a BIG fan of digital cameras! Now, THAT is right up my alley!
Well, Star Wars and digital photography collide with the new Star Wars Clone Wars digital camera! The cool thing about this one, much like the Hello Kitty MP3 player I reviewed is it has THREE changing face plates. Your little lite-saver battling child would LOVE this! With a color preview screen and VGA resolution it can also be used as a web cam.
The photo editing software is included in the package and has games, puzzles, word search, and scramble. Kids can create albums, calendars, trading cards, postcards, add captions and sounds, and the 10 story templates allow children to create their own ‘books’. We put Rudy’s head on Yoda’s body and had a good laugh. I’ve gotta say, this was my son’s FAVORITE feature as he goes hog wild over creations that’ll make ya’ smirk, but the ability to play jigsaw puzzles right there on the screen, came in close second. I would say that the best feature of the camera is the software itself with loads of fun games and entertainment to keep the mind busy.
There is a few tiny Momma Improvements I would personally make and it has to do with the memory and face plates. It takes up to 93 pictures, but my son takes A LOT of shots! I mean, what kid doesn’t take a gazillion pictures of every item in the house?! There is no expanded memory capability which is a bit of a bummer, because we had a hard time viewing the pictures ON the screen. We had to download the pics and decide whether not to keep them. Also, the faceplate’s are hard to change out. This could be a good OR bad thing in my opinion because we don’t want them to lose the plates while they are “attached”, but at the same time I was personally having a hard time doing it myeself.
Overall, this would be a great gift for the Star Wars fan in your life. As I said before, the software itself is worth it and you’ll have little hands off of YOUR camera for once.
