Recently, I called my husband, while he was on a business trip, in tears. I was so aggravated after attempting to help my Kindergartner with her Math Homework. I never experienced these aggravations with my 1st grader because he is a Math Whiz and enjoys doing it. My daughter, on the other hand, is my creative, artsy, theatrical girl. Science and Math are boring to her and she has no interest in any of it. I can, shamelessly, say she is a lot like her Momma.
In an effort to help my daughter practice her Math Skills, I discovered IXL, a new website aimed to give children a fun and individualized learning experience while strengthening their math skills.
Math can be a frustrating subject for some children and IXL offers a complete pre-kindergarten through fifth grade math curriculum by providing more than 100 math skills featured in each grade level, 1,000 different types of questions, and an unlimited number of computer-generated problems. What’s more, because the site is membership-based, your child’s learning won’t be interrupted by unwanted advertising.
The cool thing about IXL, is that the difficulty level increases as your child improves their skills. It never gets boring! Awards and prizes are earned each time a child achieves a math goal, whether it’s mastering a skill or practicing for a certain amount of time. There is incentive built into the site so your child can feel encouraged and confident as they practice.
With IXL’s automatic reporting system, parents can identify a student’s strengths and pinpoint trouble spots, view improvement over select time intervals, and measure progress based on the length of practice time. IXL automatically generates weekly progress reports that are emailed to parents every Sunday morning. The reports allow parents to identify a student’s strengths and weaknesses, view improvement over select time intervals and measure progress based on length of practice time. For a more in-depth report, parents can log in to their account and view the actual problems students missed and exactly how much time a student spent practicing.
IXL monthly membership plans start at $9.95 per month and yearly plans start at $79.00. To sign up and for more information, please visit www.ixl.com.
Courtesy of IXL, I’m excited to offer one lucky reader a 1 Year Membership to the IXL website! It will include all the functions as a regular membership and is good for ALL the children in your immediate family! All you need to do to enter is leave a comment telling me the ages of your children, what subjects are hardest for them, and what you do to help them improve.
